Israel and Morocco establish normal ties

The U.S. President Trump’s push for Arab-Israeli peace continued and resulted in Morocco becoming the fourth Arab nation in a span of four months to establish diplomatic ties with Israel. Morocco follows the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan in bringing diplomatic relations with Israel in the Middle East and Northern Africa. As part of the deal, the United States agreed to recognize Morocco’s claim over the Western Sahara region. This region is disputed and a former Spanish North African territory. According to the agreement, both countries will open liaison offices with the goal of opening embassies eventually. The U.S. officials said that they are pushing for a deal with Saudi Arabia.
